When completed in 2011, the Anderson Student Union will include gallery space dedicated to exhibiting works from the American Museum of Asmat Art at the University of St. Thomas. Between now and then people are invited to come to campus and view our "Selections from the American Museum of Asmat Art at the University of St. Thomas" walking tour. Objects from the collection are currently on exhibit in the first floor hallway of the John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts, O''Shaughnessy Educational Center lobby gallery and the Brady Educational Center lobby gallery and the first and second floors ofthe O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library. This year the AMAA@UST was ableto purchase five display cases large enough for Asmat shields. Funding for this was made possible through generous donations from our supporters. Shields can be viewed on the first and second floors of the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library, and the first floor of John R.Roach Center. One shield is in Schultz Hall near the skyway to the School of Law.
Exhibitions change during summer and the academic year. Art History Graduate Students have the opportunity to work directly with the material and design exhibitions.
Completing the walking tour on our St. Paul campus does require walking approximately half a mile. People who are interested in viewing a wider selection of objects are encouraged to contact the director, Dr. Julie Risser, 651-962-5512.
